Stepping Stones for Families is looking for a Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees.

Stepping Stones for Families is a family support charity operating across Greater Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Ayrshire. We have worked alongside children, young people and families for over 30 years, tackling the effects of poverty and disadvantage. Now is an exciting time for the organisation, as we seek to expand our board membership. 

We are looking for a Treasurer to lead the Board of Trustees in ensuring the organisation’s continuing financial sustainability. 

We would welcome an application from you if you:

  • Have proven experience of overseeing charity accounts at a senior officer / board -level.

  • Have knowledge of current finance practice relevant to voluntary organisations.

  • Have an understanding of management accounts, i.e. an ability to disseminate financial information to other board members.


You will oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring financial health of the organisation.

  • Overseeing production of necessary financial reports, accounts and audits, including:

    • Annual budget, proposing its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.

    • Balance sheet, cash flow and fundraising performance, to be presented at regular committee meetings

  • Making fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and taking a lead in interpreting financial data to them.

  • Liaising with staff, committee members and volunteers to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.

  • Ensuring proper records and effective financial procedures are in place, i.e.: cheque signatories; purchasing limits; purchasing systems; petty cash/ float; salary payments; pensions; PAYE and NI payments; and others as appropriate.

  • Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.

  • Leading on appointing and liaising with auditors/an independent examiner.

This is an unsalaried and part-time position.
